Charlevoix is a really promising staying colt. He was ridden quietly from his wide barrier (11) and he raced in third last place in the 12-horse field until commencing a wide move nearing the home turn. He then finished strongly, in the centre of the track, to take the lead at the 200m and he then drew away to win easily. Cool Chap was midfield, wide with cover, before tracking up nicely coming to the home turn. He moved up really well at the 400m, challenged at the 200m and then fought on for a good second, having no chance with the winner over the final stages. Meru, still a maiden after eight starts, settled nicely in fifth place on the rails, got an inside run from the home turn and then fought on well for an encouraging third.
