The Paul Perry-trained The Life showed good early pace and settled in second place. He moved through along the rails approaching the 600m, grabbed a break on turning for home and although tiring in the closing stages, lasting to win by a half-length. The Chris Waller-prepared Hot Albert was eased at the start and was well back early before getting through to fifth place on the rails at the 600m. He eased across heels at the 250m and got into the clear shortly afterwards to come with a late run for second, looking a little unlucky. The Jason Coyle-trained Takewing ($4.25) was eased from his outside barrier (8) and raced in last place in the eight-horse field. He was under riding nearing the home turn, where he was giving the leader about six lengths. He switched wide on straightening and ran on nicely, late for a good third on only his second start.
