Lanikai broke through for her first win a Gosford Maiden (1100m) at her seventh start on 21 February to score again, stepping up in class. She was slowly away and settled near the tail of the field before improving along the rails from the 800m. She stuck to the inside, got through to hit the lead at the 100m and went on to win nicely. Nancy was well back on the rails, also saved ground along the rails on turning for home and came with good late run to grab second, at her second race start. Top weight (59kg) Freeze The Charges led, raced clear and looked the winner at the 200m but was overtaken nearing the post for a close-up third.
