Team Hawkes-trained gelding Wild Heart followed his debut second in a 2YO Maiden (1112m) at Geelong on 19 May with a promising win here. After beginning smartly, he soon went to the front and travelled along nicely at a steady tempo in the Heavy 9 conditions before taking a clear advantage on turning for home. He then fought back, lasting to win quite well, albeit narrowly at the post. The Peter Robl-trained Curdled raced in sixth place (between runners), switched deep at the home turn, got to second at the 100m and kept making ground getting to within a long head of the winner at the post, his fourth placing from five starts to date.
