Godolphin-raced filly Popular, who was resuming after her debut third in a 2YO Open Handicap (1200m) at this track in April, scored a good first up win here. She settled nicely in fifth place (on the rails), got along the inner at the home turn, hit the front at the 100m and then held on to win well. Chain Of Fools showed good pace to lead from her outside barrier (9) and fought back well for second after leading until halfway down the straight. The Chris Waller-trained filly Semper Fidelis settled back in second last place in the nine-horse field and caught the eye with her late-closing third, staging a most promising effort on debut. She is a horse to watch.
