Zoutenant was a bit slow to move but soon recovered from his good barrier (2), improving along the rails to settled in fifth place. He got a split between runners approaching the home turn, took the lead at the 200m and despite racing greenly, fought back to win narrowly but well. Surfseeker went back from his wide barrier (11), raced towards the tail of the field, wide with cover. He improved (wide out) nearing the home turn, put in a strong run from the 100m, only failing by a nose at the post, in an impressive effort on debut. Single Gaze was midfield but trapped wide after starting from the outside barrier (12). She moved up coming to the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then fought well for a close third, putting up a good effort after a difficult trip. The Gerald Ryan-trained filly Perignon missed the start, raced in last place in the 12-horse field to the turn. She made ground between runners on straightening and continued to run on well for a very promising (2.5 lengths) fourth on debut.
