There was an obvious on pace bias today at Wanganui with five of the eight winners if not leading then being in the first three across the top minimum. It made the form dubious to some extent as vast swathes of runners most races therefore had no chance of winning whatsoever even if the leaders went silly. The winner of this Listed 3yo fillies over 1200m saw a maiden lead all the way in It's Time For Magic hang on grimly by a half a head to defeat the odds on Luna Rossa (sat second or third). The two drew clear for a ding donger and to give the winner some credit she was there to be beaten by the hotpot that was a G1 winner from last season. The winning time of 1:14.54 was the slowest of the day significantly so the rest had no hope in the sprint home coupled up with the track bias. A gap back to third saw a running on maiden filly in Queen Of Zealand and she will feature as the longer trips start to happen this season. Euphoria in fourth was the eyecatcher as on debut and tardy away before being used up to loop the field deep and move into second across the top plus she hung. She was third turning for home and only lost the blacktype placing inside the final 100m. The rest came home beaten between five to ten lengths with Ze One (sixth) and Yemanya (seventh) worth following next time seen out. Overall the race depth was poor for a Listed event, with maidens finishing first, third and fourth plus the biggest shock was Luna Rossa got beaten. A first starter finished fourth to emphasise ever more the race was quite shallow for future age group reference.
