The Swans are sitting pretty at the top of the AFL ladder after winning eight games from nine, and can be backed at 4.50 to go all the way and win the grand final.

However there is still a long way to go, and they will face a stern test against Carlton at the SCG.

The Blues also have premiership aspirations and can be backed at 3.60 to make the 2024 grand final at the MCG.

Carlton are seventh on the ladder, but can get within four points of Sydney if they pick up the win on Friday night.

A Sydney win would push the gap out to 12 points, so there is plenty at stake under the lights at the iconic venue.

. What: Sydney v Carlton
. Where: SCG, Sydney
. When: 19:40 (AEST), Friday 17th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: Sydney 1.50, Carlton 2.60

Swans missing McCartin

The Swans are on a roll after winning the last five games on the bounce, and will fancy their chances of making it six on Friday night.

However, the loss of the influential McCartin will be a big setback for John Longmire's side.

Sydney managed fine without him as they defeated Fremantle by 48 points in the west last week, but Carlton will provide a sterner test.

The Blues have Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay in their forward line, and Sydney would love to have McCartin there to help snuff out the threat.

However he is ruled out with concussion and Longmire will have to come up with another way of dealing with Curnow and McKay.

Longmire admits that Carlton have 'plenty of weapons' and his side will have to be at their best to deal with the threats they pose.

Sydney have won the last two meetings at the SCG, coming out on top by 26 and 43 points respectively.

They can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points in this latest clash.

Logan McDonald continues to shine up forward for the Swans and can be backed at 11.00 to boot the first goal of the game.

Carlton return to winning ways

Following defeats against Collingwood and Geelong, Carlton needed a big win in round nine, and they achieved it.

The Blues beat fellow premiership hopefuls Melbourne by one point in a thrilling clash, and it should give them confidence heading to Sydney.

In Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay they have two Coleman Medal contenders up forward, and the duo will be key once again.

Curnow is 8.00 to boot the first goal of the game, while McKay is available at 10.00.

Sam Walsh is another star of the team, and a player John Longmire has identified as a big threat.

The gun midfielder can be backed at 1.50 to produce 30+ disposals during the game.

It is a game that Carlton need to win and they can be backed at 6.00 to do so by 1-12 points.
