Cable for Randwick success

The sixth race at Randwick is a competitive looking 1800m Benchmark 64 handicap contest.

A heavy 10 track is expected for the race, with Jacob's Time expected to prove popular with punters dropping in grade.

The three-year-old registered a solid fourth, when beaten just over a length in a Benchmark 72 handicap at Rosehill racing first up this prep.

While unable to win in four subsequent outings, it's of note that his last two starts have come at Group 3 level here, including when fifth in the Gow-Gates Frank Packer Plate.

The gelding was beaten just over five lengths on a heavy 9 track that day and should find this contest much easier.

However, the unexposed Cable Express is preferred on this occasion, having demonstrated decent form in easier contests this prep.

Trained by Danielle Seib, the gelding came home by a narrow margin when contesting a Benchmark 66 handicap on a good 4 track at Wagga last month.

That success came over 1400m and the pick came within half-a-length of following up when runner-up in a 1600m Benchmark 74 handicap at the same track on 3rd May.

The son of Cable Bay is untested on heavy going, however, a second on a soft 7 in a barrier trial at Canberra in March gives cause for optimism on the ground front.

Danny Beasley, on board for each of the gelding's last three starts, is again set to ride and his mount looks capable of saluting stepping up to metro level racing .

Activist to salute at Sandown

The seventh race at Sandown looks an open affair, with a field of 14 set to go to post for a 1300m Benchmark 64 handicap for three-year-old's.

Anthony & Sam Freedman saddle Etincelle here, with the gelding having demonstrated ability in his three starts to date.

The youngster debuted with a fourth over 1130m when racing on a sound surface at Geelong in March.

The son of Grunt duly broke his maiden when contesting a six runner 1200m event on his first start on a wet track on the Lakeside course here last month.

While unable to complete a double back at Geelong in a 1212m Benchmark 64 handicap on 24th April, the gelding did manage to finish a good second, again on a wet track.

Mark Zahra will have to overcome a wide barrier if he is to steer his partner to victory here, however and it can pay to look elsewhere for the winner.

Arizona Activist placed at Listed level when third in the 1400m Anzac Day Stakes here in April last year.

The gelding has made four subsequent starts, winning twice including in a 1200m maiden on the synthetic track at Pakenham last August.

The selection registered his most recent victory when coming home one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals when resuming at Sale last month.

The son of Written Tycoon contested a Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 3 track that day and should have no issues with the soft 5 track expected for this event.

Trained by Ben, JD & Will Hayes, the pick has a good barrier in two and looks capable of completing a double.

Recognition to resume with Ipswich win

Chris Anderson's Smart Recognition ticks plenty of boxes ahead of his return from a spell in the fourth race at Ipswich.

The race in question is an 1100m Benchmark 65 handicap contest, with the pick having demonstrated a liking for this track when successful here in January.

The three-year-old came home one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals in a 1350m Class 2 handicap held on a soft 5 track that day.

Similar underfoot conditions are expected here, with the gelding dropping back in distance following a fifth over 1400m at Eagle Farm in February.

Cejay Graham's mount trialled for this race with a victory in a 1000m barrier trial at Doomben and he is taken to deliver a victory with barrier five a further positive.
