AFL: Lions fighting to keep season alive

3 minute read

Brisbane Lions are in desperate need of a win when they take on Queensland rivals the Gold Coast Suns in the game of the day on Sunday.

Last season's grand finalists sit 2-5 following a disappointing start and are running out of time to turn their season around.

They are priced at 21.00 to win the grand final, and it is going to take a big change in fortune for that to happen.

Elsewhere, Fremantle will be looking for back-to-back wins when they head to the MCG to take on a Richmond side that have won just one game this season.

Another side who are 1-6, Hawthorn, are in action when they take on an inconsistent Western Bulldogs side at Marvel Stadium.

The Bulldogs are 3.00 to make the top eight and play finals, so a home win over the Hawks is an absolute must for them.

Dockers back in business

. What: Richmond v Fremantle
. Where: MCG, Melbourne
. When: 13:00 (AEST), Sunday 5th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: Richmond 2.60, Fremantle 1.50

Fremantle recovered from the shock derby loss against West Coast to beat the Western Bulldogs last week, and need to back it up with another four points against the Tigers.

The Dockers have won three of their last five visits to the MCG, so the iconic venue will hold no fear for them.

There has been little to choose between the two sides in recent meetings and another close game could be on the cards.

Fremantle to win by 13-24 points can be backed at 5.00, while Richmond to win by 1-12 is available at 5.50.

Nat Fyfe produced 37 disposals against the Bulldogs and can be backed at 3.00 to follow that up with 30+ against the Tigers.

Bulldogs need a result

. What: Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn
. Where: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
. When: 16:00 (AEST), Sunday 5th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Western Bulldogs 1.23, Hawthorn 4.20

The Bulldogs sit 3-4 for the season so far and have a great chance to level up their win/loss record against the struggling Hawks.

They play Richmond in the game after this one, so will be looking to get their season back on track with back-to-back wins.

Aaron Naughton is averaging two goals a game for the Bulldogs and is priced at 8.00 to kick the first of the game, or 1.04 to score at anytime.

The Bulldogs will be hoping for a comfortable win and are 5.50 to win by 25-36 points.

Massive game at the Gabba

. What: Brisbane v Gold Coast
. Where: Gabba, Brisbane
. When: 19:10 (AEST), Sunday 5th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Brisbane 1.47, Gold Coast 2.70

Brisbane have lost the last two games against GWS and Geelong, and are in desperate need of a win to get them back on track.

They have a run of games against sides they should be beating, and four points against the Suns will be a great way to start.

The Suns have won two of the last three games, but on the last two trips to the Gabba they have left empty handed.

They have also struggled on the road this season, when losing all three games, so it will take a big turnaround to get the job done on Sunday.

In the last five meetings at the Gabba, Brisbane have won by an average of 49 points.

The Lions can be backed at 12.00 to win this latest contest by 49-60 points.
