Winx Leads A Magic Millions Parade

3 minute read

Champion mare Winx led a parade of feature wins by Magic Millions graduates around Australia on Saturday.

Winx provided the highlight when she cruised to a memorable win in the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick for her 28th career win and 25th victory in succession.

Her 18th win at G1 level pushed her prizemoney to just $2000 shy of $19 million in earnings.

The daughter of Street Cry was one of six individual stakes winners sold by Magic Millions to win at stakes level with feature winners coming across four states.

Another Magic Millions mare to shine at Randwick was the WA-bred and sold speedster Quilista, a dashing winner of the G2 Sapphire Stakes.

The Darren Weir trained Quilista (Scandal Keeper x Brocky's Ace by Surtee) continued her brilliant run of form, having taken out the G3 Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill at her previous start.

Quilista is turning out to be a great yearling sale buy. She was purchased by her former Perth trainer and part owner Justin Warwick for $10,000 at the 2015 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Bred and sold by Korilya Stud, Quilista now boasts eight wins and earnings of over $560,000. She will now head to Adelaide to contest the G1 double of the Robert Sangster Stakes and The Goodwood.

Exciting colt Valour Road confirmed his status as the champion 2YO of Western Australia with an easy win in the $500,000 Karrakatta Plate at Ascot.

One of five runners in the G2 juvenile dash for trainer Simon Miller, Valour Road made it two feature wins from two starts when he held out stablemate Lady Cosmology by a half length.

By Giant's Causeway's G1 winning son Frost Giant, Valour Road made his debut with a brilliant win in the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic at Pinjarra.

Valour Road (Frost Giant x Melba Avenue by Street Sense) was bred and sold by Yarradale Stud at last year's Perth Yearling Sale where Miller went to $60,000 to secure the rising star.

The Chris Waller-trained filly Improvise (Hinchinbrook x Karalee by O'Reilly) won the Listed Princess Stakes at the Sunshine Coast.

She became the 14th stakes winner by her sire Hinchinbrook when she defeated La Scopa by a head.

A half-sister to stakes performer Princeton Miss, Improvise was purchased by Waller for $200,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2016 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Exciting juvenile filly Fundamentalist scored a brilliant win in the Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville at just her third start for David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

Fundamentalist (Not a Single Doubt x Centafaith by Keep The Faith) was purchased by Aquis Farm and Blue Sky Bloodstock for $135,000 at last year's Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

Fundamentalist provided her sire Not A Single Doubt with his 54th stakes winner and the first leg of a stakes double before the 3YO filly Special Alert (Not A Single Doubt x Truly Special by Jeune) won the G3 WA Oaks at Ascot to make it 55 stakes winners for her sire.

Not A Single Doubt is currently sixth in the Australian general sires standings by earnings with $8,935,860.

Rising Choisir talent Spring Choice scored an impressive win in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m).

Prepared by Leon and Troy Corstens, Spring Choice (Choisir x First Blossom by Giant’s Causeway) was an impressive winner in the rich Mornington Guineas at his previous start.

Spring Choice was purchased for $120,000 by Next Level Bloodstock in partnership with Malua Racing at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale from Aquis Farm.

He was a successful pin hook having being purchased for $55,000 from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2015 MM National Weanling Sale.

Spring Choice provided his sire Choisir with his 88th stakes winner.

Darren Weir-trained mare Quilista is now the winner of her past three races in succession. She again began quickly and immediately went to the front. Damian Lane then let her run along at a quick tempo, soon establishing a large lead. She turned for home still holding a big advantage and was not threatened in the straight to score impressively by almost two lengths. She is a talented and fast mare with Group One potential. Ravi raced back in third place, went to second (about four lengths back) at the 300m and kept fighting on well for second in really honest effort. Highly consistent mare White Moss was smartly away and raced in second place, chasing the free-running leader. She then kept fighting on gamely to hold third and a very promising first up performance.
