Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 22nd May 2024

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 22.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Warwick farm, Ipswich, Balaklava, Bendigo and Belmont park.

WARWICK FARM: RACE 3 @ 2:00 PM

COSTNER (2) resumes gelded for the Gollan yard. Has switched from a sharp Sydney barn and his NSW provincial form is strong. Owns a Doomben trial win and Orman stays aboard. Looks ready to go and maps for a soft run. Stablemate MEHRETU (6) debuts and has looked the part at the trials. Orman rode her the most recent but she won't be disadvantaged with Craig Williams booked. A bold run is on the cards. PERIGEAN (1) presents for the same yard with Maloney aboard. Needs to find a touch more but there's improvement to come. VESPER LYND (7) resumes and she showed enough on debut to suggest he can get some of the money. Brings a trial win and draws the rail.
SELECTIONS: Costner with the race experience.

BALAKLAVA: RACE 5 @ 3:05 PM

TRANTORO (2) made very light work of a maiden field when resuming at Gawler last month. Nowhere near as effective last start when going to town. Kept fresh for this and is drawn favourably. Sharp bounce back anticipated. CHAMPAGNE AFFAIR (6) didn't give his rivals a chance last time at Port Augusta when leading pillar-to-post. Also comes in on the fresh side with 31 days between runs but has kept the legs ticking over with a dominant trial win on his home track. Can repeat the dose. HATEECH (9) doesn't win out of turn but does shoulder a handy record over the track and trip. The booking of Holder is a push for her chances and she's worth considering. Smaller cases can also be made for INTACTO (3) and last start winner MISS DIAMANTINA (1).
SELECTIONS: Backing Trantoro to win

BENDIGO: RACE 8 @ 4:30 PM

SOJUSTKOBY (5) is a lightly raced 4yo with a promising record. He was beaten first up at Cranbourne but was off a very long spell there and ran well for third. Prior to that his only defeat came in a Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley. Fitter now and should go close. SUBLIMINAL (11) is a consistent type coming off a win at Wagga. More depth here but can figure in the minor money. CHILL THE KRUG (12) is racing well of late and should be about the money again from an ideal draw. DISMOUNT (14) is a lightly raced type who won well enough at Echuca last time and could measure up.
SELECTIONS: Sojustkoby to win.

IPSWICH: RACE 1 @ 11:59 AM

BELMONT PARK: RACE 6 @ 3:35 PM

WEERAECHOUX (3) jumps out to this trip for just the second time in his career third-up into the campaign. He closed off well as favourite last time out and looks ready to tackle this trip, where he was tried in G3 company in the spring. Building towards another win and gets his chance today. HENRY HAS SPOKEN (6) also steps out to the mile third-up after a 1.3L defeat at Ascot a fortnight ago. She's been placed at this distance previously and should be hitting her peak after coming into this preparation with just 1 trial. Racing well and won't be far away off the inside draw. PRAY FOR LUCY (4) can be around the mark after a good win last time out. ROYAL SPLENDOUR (8) also has claims on after a nice effort at Northam recently.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Weeraechoux.
