As we close in on the G1 carnival for Adelaide this season, the races tend to get stronger with more interstate raiders.
Saturday's Manihi Classic is a starting point for horses maybe chasing a Goodwood and we think Lombardo is probably being targeted at that G1 race.
Just recall back in October this horse ran 5-1 in a Manikato Stakes and while it didn't turn out the ultimate way, he was hardly horrible when fifth.
Not sure the straight really suited him at Flemington when resuming but perhaps more so the 1000m.
While this is 1100m, he has gate speed as he showed his only time here leading all the way and winning by over five lengths.
This looks a lovely draw to work over and be outside the lead and his class can tell late.
Earlier in the program Hopon Harry runs second up over the 1200m in a BM68 and will be tough to beat.
The 3yo could well be wanting a mile down the track but showed a nice late finish when into second three weeks back.
He ran into Mac 'N' Cheese there who is clearly going places and the form has stood up.
No doubt he is up in weight but this is not a strong race at all. If he can position up midfield, he will be hard to hold out.
