Dockers AFLW pair struck down by knee injuries

3 minute read

Fremantle's Ange Stannett will miss the entire 2024 AFLW season after the vice-captain and Serena Gibbs sustained knee injuries.

Fremantle have suffered a huge double-blow ahead of the AFLW season, with Ange Stannett and Serena Gibbs struck down by knee injuries during a horror training session.

Dockers vice-captain Stannett will miss the entire 2024 season after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee on Thursday night.

Gibbs damaged the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments, also in her left knee.

The players' injury timelines will be assessed after they undergo surgery.

Fremantle head of AFLW Claire Heffernan said the club would do everything it could to support the players through their rehabilitation.

"Ange is a loved and admired teammate and will be missed on the field in 2024," Heffernan said.

"Her leadership and care for her teammates is second to none, so as a group we are shattered this injury has put a pause on her ability to play the game that she loves.

"Serena's injury is another stroke of bad luck, as she was building towards some impressive form and ready to hit pre-season with intensity and purpose."

Fremantle are hoping to bounce back into the finals this year after two seasons on the outer.

The Dockers finished 13th last term with a 4-6 record under first-year coach Lisa Webb.
