John Sargent-trained three-year-old Oculist followed his win in a Goulburn Maiden (1500m) on 15 August at his third race start win another promising win, stepping up in class here. He was smartly away, settled in third place on the rails, before getting a split on turning for home. He overtook the leader (Coonawarra) at the 50m and then drew clear to score comfortably.
