Two-year-old gelding Just For Starters, from the Robbie Laing stable, did well to win here at his first start. He began quite well and travelled in third place before moving up (three deep) rounding the home turn. He challenged at the 200m and gradually drew away from the 100m to win with something in hand by three quarters of a length. Just Magical drove through from his inside barrier (1) to hold a narrow lead most of the way to the turn. He grabbed a break on straightening and kept fighting back well for second, his second such placing in two starts to date. *ANZ
