Last year's Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m) winner Impending scored a very good first-up win. Having his first start since racing at Flemington in November, he was a bit slow to move and settled in fourth place on the rails but was held up behind runners rounding the home turn. Damian Browne then steered him through a gap at the 200m and he finished too well to score a narrow but impressive win. Most Important raced outside the leader (Monsieur Gustave), got the better of that horse at the 100m and then battled strongly for (long neck) second in a bold first-up effort. I Am Excited settled in last place in the eighthorse field and improved (deep) rounding the home turn before she kept running on really well in the straight for a very good third from Monsieur Gustave, who worked to find the lead and then held on well for (1.9 lengths) fourth in a promising first-up run. The $61 chance Privlaka was near last on the rails and did well making late ground for (2.8 lengths) fifth just ahead of Supido who had travelled in fifth spot, one off the rails before going to third (three deep) coming to the home turn. He then battled on in the straight for (2.8 lengths) sixth at his first Queensland start.
