Quality mare Red Tracer was first away from the barrier and raced in second spot most of the way to the home turn, following a moderate pace. She set out after the leader (Catkins) as the tempo picked up passing the 300 metres mark. She then kept running on resolutely, to grab a last-stride win in the sprint home, the sectional times of the race telling the story (62.16 first 1000 metres/34.29 last 600 metres). Catkins soon led. Craig Newitt then slowed the pace before dashing the mare clear at the 300 metres point and was only caught in the last few strides to finish second. Fire Up Fifi followed Red Tracer and raced in sixth place on the rails most of the way to the 300 metres mark. She moved through to fourth at the 200 metre mark and then battled on well for a good third. Sharnee Rose came from seventh at the 800 metres mark, making ground for a sound fourth. *ANZ
