Chris Waller-trained colt Wine Bush scored his first win in six starts, putting up a promising effort in taking out this Listed race. He began well and the eased to settle in sixth place. He switched across heels at the 300m, challenged at the 100m and finished a bit too well to score in a photo, looking suited to further. Rocketeer went back from his wide barrier (11), settled in second last place in the 16-horse field, saved ground along the rails at the home turn and got right through to hit the front at the 200m. He then fought back gamely, only being headed nearing the post for a good second. New Zealand colt Highlad, a winner of his first two starts, went forward at his Australian debut from his wide barrier (15), settled nicely outside the leader (Lord Macau), went to the front on straightening and then battled back well for third.
