A good first up victory to the very much underrated He Or She who came with a strong run from back in the field to pick up Hooked in the dying strides, scoring a narrow first up win. He was a little slowly away from the gates and settled down in third last position one off the fence. He commence a forward four wide move from the 650m, but was one of the first horses off the bridle once turning for home. Coming under pressure He Or She responded well in the straight wearing down Hooked to get the bob in right on the line. Hooked also put up a good first up performance for new trainer Robert Smerdon. He was away well from the gates and was taken forward settling down in third position one off the fence. He over-raced a little in the early to middle stages but travelled up smoothly when turning for home three wide into the clear. He quickly hit the front under a hold at the 400m. Nursed once in front a long way from home he picked up well going clear at the 250m before rolling back to the fence. He battled strongly and just went under in a close finish. Zebrinz settled down in third last position trailing the winner into the race. He was taken to the outside of the field in the straight and came with a big run on the outside. He looked to be going better than the winner at the 300m but he could not get by, tiring a little on his run late to finish third.
