From barrier four, Newmarket Handicap (Gr.1, 1200m) winner Redkirk Warrior under Regan Bayliss gave his opponents no excuses. He was handy to the pace, leading or co-leading at the crossing. Under a hold, he took over at the 400m. Then, Bayliss shook him up inside the 300m, drove clear and from that point there was never a doubt, the race in safe keeping at the 100m to score easily, his sixth win from 13 starts and topping $1,000,000 dollars in Australia alone. Scales Of Justice was back and wide on to the course proper, and kept up a strong run, although racing very greenly, recovering over the final 100m to finish a solid second from Land Of Plenty, who was well back at the 400m and finished well between runners to finish third. Voodoo Lad was in behind the pace at the 400m, had room to challenge but finished only fairly for fourth.
