Anthony Freedman-trained filly Shoals, runner-up in the recent Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) staged a strong and game effort in beating older mares in this Group One race. She raced outside the leader (Global Glamour), dashed to the front at the 300m and then fought back really well under her light weight (50kg) to win by the narrowest of margins. Eckstein raced in eighth place (wide with cover) before tracking up nicely to be fifth (wide out) at the home turn. She then put in a good and kept finishing well to just miss out, staging a really smart effort. Dixie Blossoms raced midfield (between runners), got a split at the 200m and then ran on strongly to take a very close-up third in a smart performance. Prompt Response was handily placed but caught wide without cover from her difficult barrier (13) and then battled strongly for (0.3 lengths) fourth, putting up a very good effort while Foxplay made late ground in the sprint home after racing near the tail of the field for (1.1 lengths) fifth, also going well.
