The Joe Pride-trained sprinter Kuro put up a very good effort in winning here. He was quickly away from his wide barrier (9) and settled in sixth place, three wide with cover, following a good tempo. He began his move (wide out) nearing the home turn, challenged at the 100m and then went on to score impressively despite a wide trip. His Majesty settled back in second last place from his outside barrier (10) before getting through to fifth at the 150m. He then kept making good ground for second, albeit without looking likely to trouble the winner. The top weight (59kg) Ball Of Muscle went to the front after a quick beginning and travelled well before moving clear on straightening. He was headed at the 100m and then battled on well to hold the minor placing. Supreme Effort was back in eighth place, got along the inner from the 150m and them fought on well for (1.7 lengths) fourth while Meursault was third to the home turn and seemed to have every chance prior to finishing (2.6 lengths) fifth.
