The consistent Mouro was smartly away and drove through from his inside barrier (1) to lead. He set a good pace and fought back grimly when challenged mid-stretch to win by a half head putting up a game effort. Beaten Up enjoyed a good run third on the rails before getting an inside run to challenge at the 200m. He fought on well, failing by only half head at the post. Speediness was seventh one off the rails before moving up wide on straightening. He then kept running on fairly well to get third. The favourite Keith’s Legacy was sixth on the rails to the turn. He was held up for a run on straightening but was disappointing over the concluding stages just holding on to take fourth. Monton had a good run fourth one out and one back before improving three wide at the turn. However he just kept battling on in the straight, under his top weight (58.5kg) to finish fifth, beaten four lengths. *ANZ
