The favourite Real Love, who was having her third start this preparation, was most impressive in taking out this Group Three race. She settled back in seventh place in the ten-horse field, following a solid tempo, before improving nicely (wide) from the 600m. She dashed to the front on straightening and then drew clear to score a stylish win. Maurus went back from his outside barrier (10) and settled in last place. He commenced a good run (deep) approaching the home turn, got to fourth on straightening and kept running on well to take a very good second. Tarquin settled in fifth place, improved (wide) from the 600m to be second at the home turn. He then kept fighting on to hold the minor placing. Of the other favoured runners, Observational was beyond midfield, was under pressure a long way from home and made late ground for (6.8 lengths) fifth while Tom Melbourne led the field until the home turn but disappointed, after setting a strong pace, in weakening to finish (6.9 lengths) sixth.
