Under John Allen, favourite Master Of Arts was pushed forward out of gate four to be a handy fourth (rails) with a circuit to run. Past the 1000m Allen moved him forward and they sat second but seven lengths off the tear away leader. At the 500m they were just two lengths back and looking to pounce. Into the straight, they went after the leader, levelled up but it was not until the 100m that they eventually got past, edging to the line in a tough battle. Puccini led down the back, widened the lead to seven lengths around the bend, had two lengths to spare turning in then bravely held out all but the winner by a neck in a great battle to the line. Jim's Journey was third last at the 1000m, ran around the field turning in and ran well to be another half length back in third. Mail It In started his run at the 800m, was third turning in and battled into fourth, the first four being well clear of the rest.
