Irish-bred stayer Annus Mirabilis has now won three of his seven starts since joining the Stuart Webb stable last year. He settled in eighth place, three wide with cover before Regan Bayliss brought him forward on passing the 1000m. He got to the front coming to the home turn and then fought strongly in the straight to win well in a really solid staying performance. The Robbie Laing-trained Double Bluff was back in 11th place, improved between runners nearing the home turn, went to fourth on straightening and kept fighting on well for second. The favourite Master Of Arts had a good trip in sixth place, between runners before Damian Lane steered him through nicely nearing the home turn. He was second on straightening and then kept fighting on to take third placing after appearing to have had every chance. The Robert Hickmott-trained import Chance To Dance was back in tenth place at the 800m and ran on nicely under his top 58kg weight for (2.8 lengths) fourth.
