Casino Wizard scored a good first up win. Having his first start since winning the Christmas Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at this track on Boxing Day, he settled in sixth place, between runners, after beginning well. He got a split at the 200m, went to the front at the 50m and then went on to win well. Karlovasi was smartly away and went straight to the front. He then travelled nicely, got a break at the 200m and was only headed in the closing stages to finish second after running a bold race in the lead. Riziz was a handy fourth on the rails, got through on the inner at the home turn, went to second at the 200m and then fought on to just hold the minor placing. Royal Rumble was slowly away and was last in the nine-horse field before improving between runners at the home turn. He got through to fifth at the 200m and then kept running on well for fourth, just missing third in a photo.
