Streaking Comet travelled comfortably outside the leader (Pinball Dawn) being allowed to set at very steady pace (first 800 52.66). She took a narrow lead on rounding the home turn, and then stuck on grimly, fighting off challengers to win by a nose. Electric Power settled last, one off the rails, in the small six-horse field. Jim Cassidy made a fast run (wide out) at the 600m due to the very slow pace. She challenged at the 300m and then fought on well in the sprint-home (last 600m 35.57) to fail by the narrowest of margins. Atlantic Queen was fourth, one out and one back, before improving three wide at the turn. She challenged at the 300m then kept battling on to take the minor placing. *ANZ
