Moriarty began well and was then eased to settle seventh, one off the rails. He improved rounding the home turn, went wide nearing the 300m and then put in a strong run to hit the lead at the 100m. He then drew clear to score well by a length, putting up a good trial for Saturday week’s The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m). Glencadam Gold went to the lead and was able to set a moderate tempo (first 1400m 1:27.21). He got a good break at the 300m and then held on quite well for second, finding the winner too strong in the closing stages. Masked Marvel was second last in the nine-horse field to the 600m. He switched wide on turning for home and he was putting in a good finishing run before drifting out badly from the 200m point. He finished almost on the outside rail at the post to take third - he may have won had he maintained a straight course. Sneak A Peek (fourth) and Ironstein (fifth) battled on fairly well in the straight while kingdoms (sixth) made good ground late after coming from last at the turn. *ANZ
