Time For War, who raced erratically in his debut win in November resumed with trainer Gerald Ryan making a number of gear changes. He had to work in the early stages from his barrier (8) and crossed to the lead at the 800m. He veered out from the 200m point but fought back gamely under the urgings of apprentice Damien Thornton, who rode a difficult horse particularly well, to score a narrow but good win. He is wayward but talented colt. Kumaon ($4.25 fav) missed the start and was last in the nine-horse field to the home turn. Kerrin McEvoy saved ground, switching to the rails on straightening to challenge strongly on passing the 200m. He then kept fighting on for a half neck second, putting up a good effort after his slow beginning. Klammer was well away then eased to get a good run, third on the rails. He was under pressure from the 200m and kept battling on quite well to hold third, beaten two lengths. Modoc did not show any early pace and raced in second last place to the turn. He switched between runners at the 300m and ran on resolutely for fourth, looking suited to further. Mr Cha Cha soon crossed to the lead but was taken on in the early stages and then eased before coming outside the new leader (Time For War) at the 700m. He felt the pressure at the 200m and then battled on fairly well to finish fourth, beaten two and three quarter lengths. *ANZ
