The Ken Keys-trained gelding First Course, now the winner of three of his last five starts, all at this track, broke through here for his first win a stakes level. He was well away, went to the front, he then slowed the pace before setting up a good break on passing the 600m. He was challenged at the 200m but he fought well, lasting to score narrowly in a photo. Cool Chap had a good trip back in second place. He moved up nicely to challenge at the 200m and then battled on well for a very close second. Manageress raced back in sixth place, one off the rails. She improved to fourth (wide out) at the home turn and then kept running on nicely to take a close-up third.
