James Cummings-trained colt Rock And Swing put up a nice effort to win here on debut, albeit narrowly. He was slowly away and was a clear last in the seven-horse field in the early stages before settling in second last place on the rails. He got along the rails (under riding) rounding the home turn, got a late split at the 100m and responded to grab a last stride win. Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Sparkle was third on the rails, challenged at the 100m, briefly hit the front shortly afterwards only to be caught right on the post for a close second. Godolphin-raced colt Wine, racing on debut, was fifth (one off the rails) went wide nearing the home turn, challenged at the 100m and battled on for a close-up third, on debut.
