Handfast, a Godolphin-raced three-year-old, is now the winner of two of his only five starts after scoring when resuming at Newcastle’s Beaumont track in a Maiden Plate (1250m) on 18 February. He got through from his good barrier (4) to settle in fourth place on the rails, got an inside run on straightening, hit the front at the 100m and fought back to score narrowly but well. Five-yearold Takewing was near last to the home turn and then came with a strong run for late-closing second.
