This Listed 3yo only 1335m event was reasonably solidly run on an off track and saw a North island trained filly in Excelleration show utter domination at the line. The filly got back on a day where on pacers had an advantage but if the speed was sustained or attacks came early then swoopers could still prevail. Excelleration was bolting across the top ninth the inner and worked off and through near the home turn quickly to fifth then in a few surging bounds led at the 100m and powered away to score by two lengths. It was her third win in nine starts and a first blacktype success with the promise of more to come if properly race placed. She clocked 1:20.56 and that was the second best time of the day for this trip with the fillies and mares winner of the second race in Dontpokethetiger clocking 1:20.46. Kiwi Ida ran on well for second and the clear leader Pipiana wilted to finish third and was over four lengths behind the winner at the post. The Sparkle sat second the outer and wilted while Beneficial was wide before getting over third and the effort told as expected the run home. Global Thinking was running on very late from worse than midfield on settling and Madam Swiss was ditto but she came along the inside. The rest disappointed but Anzac Coup had a partial slipped saddle so can be forgiven and Heberite after running off near the home turn got going again very late. Vincent was shocking in finishing last. Not a very strong field but the winner Excelleration has more success to come for sure and that includes back in the North Island too. The runner up Kiwi Ida will always win her share if kept to the South Island and that applies too for both Pipiana and The Sparkle.
