The Mick Kent-trained Scratchy Bottom ($4.25 fav) looks the makings of a very good staying filly, now winning two of her three starts. She was slowly away and was a clear last in the nine-horse field in the early stages. She was still last nearing the home turn, as Michael Rodd urged her to improve. She saved ground on straightening, getting a nice split between runners and moved through to fifth at the 200m. She then finished far too strongly and won going away for three quarters of a length, being eased down at the post. It was a smart performance. Mambo Lady was quickly away and went straight to the lead. She got a break rounding the home turn and kept fighting on well when challenged for a good second. Mamwaazel had a nice run, fourth one off the rails to the turn. She looked a winning chance when challenging at the 200m but tired a bit in the closing stages for third, beaten a length and a half. *ANZ
