Prince Of Penzance was smartly away from his inside barrier (1) and then eased to get a good trip, fifth on the rails. He remained there to the 600m, got a split between runners nearing the turn and challenged at the 300m. He then finished a little too well, battling on very well for a solid win, scoring by three quarters of a length. Oregon Spirit was near last to the 600m, saved ground between runners approaching the turn and switched out to challenge on straightening. He then battled on nicely for a good second. Extra Zero was third on the rails to the turn, switched into the clear at the 200m and held on to take the minor placing. He’s Your Man raced outside the leader most of the way to the turn and held on for fourth. The favourite Laidback Larry ($1.90) worked from his wide barrier (10) to take the lead at the 1200m. He then steadied the tempo but tired after his early efforts for fifth, after leading the field to the 400m. *ANZ
