Shamal Wind did very well to win here from the outside barrier (13). She was eased in the early stages and went back to last before improving between runners on straightening. She got a split passing the 200m and finished fast to grab a long head win in fast time (56.95). Top weight (60kg) General Truce went through from his inside barrier (1) to share the lead on the rails, at a solid tempo. He slipped along the rails at the 200m and took the lead shortly afterwards, only to be caught nearing the post for second. It was an impressive on-pace effort, especially with his weight. The three-year-old filly Brilliant Bisc shared the lead to the home turn and held on well in the straight for a good third. Vatican was trapped deep, then eased to race in seventh place before moving up deep at the turn. He then battled on nicely for fourth. African Pulse raced on the pace, three deep outside the leading pair and held on quite well for fifth. The favourite Lord Of The Sky ($1.90) was a little slow to move, improved to be fourth, but was under riding. He was struggling nearing the home turn and dropped out in the straight to finish last, beaten seven lengths, racing well below his best. *ANZ
