Afleet Esprit was away well from her outside barrier but was settled at the rear of the field by jockey Damien Oliver. The leaders ran along in front setting a good pace for Afleet Esprit to run at. She was pulled out into the clear off the back of Avanti at the 400m making quick ground, hit the front at the 100m and then fought on strongly to beat Lumosty narrowly. Lumosty had a similar run to the winner racing on her inside. She was held up between runners and hampered at the 300m. She hit the front momentarily at the 50m and went down in the final stride. A very good effort by a talented filly. Sabatini was a little tardily away before settling down on the back of the speed in the middle of the course. She put her run in with the first two but levelled out on her run inside the final 200m, staying on a one pace to the line for third. Traveston Girl did the best of the on-pace runners. She raced fiercely early in third position closer to the flat side rail. She battled on gamely for a well beaten fourth but considering the work she did early it was a solid effort.
