Lightly raced colt Rich Enuff impressed with a narrow but good win in fast time (1:08.13). He began well and raced close to the leaders, in the centre of the track. He got to the front at the 200m and then fought back gamely to win by a long head. The Queensland-trained Looks Like The Cat was midfield with cover before switching out to challenge approaching the 400m, he got to third at the 300m and then kept battling on well for a very good second at his first run in Melbourne. Ghibellines was slowly away and settled near the tail of the field. He got a split at the 400m went to fifth at the 200m and kept battling on soundly for a good third. Awesome Rock was midfield, behind runners, angled into clear running at the 400m, got to sixth at the 200m and then battled on for (3.7 lengths) fourth. Brazen Beau was close to the lead, racing on the rails side, went to the front at the 300m and then held on for (3.9 lengths) fifth at his first run since June. He was found to be lame in his near fore after a post race veterinary examination. Go Indy Go was always well back and dropped out from the 500m to finish 26 lengths last in a disappointing performance that suggested something could be amiss with the filly, who was having her first run since winning the ATC Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) in April.
