The Mike Moroney-trained three-year-old gelding Tribal Wisdom put up a promising effort in taking out his first stakes race here. Having his third race start after winning on debut in a Sale Maiden (1205m) on 14 February, he settled back in second last place in the tenhorse field after a slow beginning. He improved between runners nearing the home turn, went deep on straightening, challenged at the 100m and fought really well to grab a narrow but smart win, looking suited to further. The favourite I Thought So settled in sixth place, one off the rails, moved up strongly (wide out) rounding the home turn and looked the winner when he took the lead shortly after straightening. But he then raced greenly, veering out, before being overhauled right on the post for a close second, his waywardness proving costly. War Hero was caught deep (without cover) in fifth place. He went wider still at the home turn and appeared to be struggling but he lifted well in the closing stages to take the minor placing in a sound effort.
