The British import Spillway improved on his first two Australian starts to score easily here. He travelled comfortably in second last place in the 14-horse field to the 600m. He went to the extreme outside rounding the home turn, sprinted quickly at the 300m, hit the lead at the 150m and then drew away for an impressive two and a half length win. Another former British galloper Danchai ran on well for second after being last to the 600m. He saved ground with an inside run at the turn to be in a challenging position at the 200m and then fought on nicely for second, also at his third Australian start. Slow Pace made this event and all-imports finish when gelding battled on to take third. He was handily placed, wide with cover before fanning deep rounding the home turn. He looked a threat at the 300m and then kept fighting on to fill the minor placing. Alzora ran on nicely from midfield for fourth while the favourite I’m Imposing finished 5.1 lengths fifth after racing three deep without cover most of the way to the home turn. *ANZ
