Hot Snitzel began well and had a good trip behind the leader, although he raced a bit keenly in stages. He moved up coming to the turn, hit the front at the 300m and then proved too good, despite his top weight (59kg), to score a strong win. The favourite Knoydart was ridden quietly in the early stages by Kerrin McEvoy and raced in sixth place, one off the rails. He got a nice split rounding the turn and was in a challenging position soon after straightening. He went to second at the 200m but just battled from that point, finding the winner (who conceded him 1.5kg) too good to take second place. Aeronautical was fifth on the rails, got an inside run on passing the 300m and kept fighting on to take third. That’s A Good Idea showed his customary pace and led the field to the 300m before finishing 3.4 lengths fourth while Emblems was a handy third to the turn and held on fairly well for 3.8 lengths fifth. *ANZ
