Team Hawkes-trained three-year-old gelding Wild Heart, who had not finished further back than fourth (winning once) in four prior starts, staged a promising first-up effort in winning here. He settled in second last place in the small five-horse field before moving up wide at the 600m but was under pressure shortly afterwards. He then responded and came with a late bid to score quite comfortably at the post. He should appreciate further and is a horse to watch. Single Bullet raced outside the leader (Arbeitsam), looked the winner when he grabbed a break on straightening, only to be caught nearing the post for a good second after running a bold race. Redouble had a good trip in third place on the rails and held on to take the minor placing. The favourite Arbeitsam went to the front as expected but was under riding at the home turn before finishing (1.7 lengths) fourth, proving somewhat disappointing in resuming here.
