The David Atkins-trained colt Jonker claimed favouritism for next month’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at the Gold Coast with an impressive victory here and remains unbeaten after two starts. He settled in second place behind the leader (La Pomme De Pin) at a good tempo. He moved up nicely nearing the home turn, went to the front on straightening and then drew clear to score easily by just over four lengths and in smart time. The Clarry Conners-trained colt Skyray staged a promising effort on debut. He did not show much early pace and settled in last place in the seven-horse field. He went deep (under riding) on turning for home and responded well over the closing stages, running on well to take second, looking suited to further. Bondi raced in fourth place, one off the rails, was under pressure coming to the home turn and kept battling on to take third, without threatening at his first run this preparation. The favourite Terminology was slow to move and was last early on before improving (deep) in the early stages. She was then trapped (three wide without cover) as she challenged coming to the home turn before weakening for (5.1 lengths) fourth after a difficult trip on debut. Ljungberg battled on well for (5.2 lengths) fifth in a sound debut while La Pomme De Pin again showed good pace but weakened after straightening to finish (6.1 lengths) sixth.
