3 minute read

Boss Lane has continued his love affair with Randwick after taking out the July Sprint (1100m) on Saturday.

The Ron Quinton-trained runner has now won seven times at his home course, showing significant improvement from his previous effort at Grafton.

Settling off the leaders for much of the race, Boss Lane fought on strongly in the straight, taking the lead inside the 150m, holding off a fast finishing Petrossian with Felines third.

Boss Lane returned a Timeform figure of 112, considerably higher than the 91 he ran to at Grafton and two pounds above his win at Randwick three runs back.

Running only one pound below his previous best achieved when third in the Group 2 Hyland Race Colours Challenge last year, the rising seven-year-old gelding has enjoyed a steady stream of wins throughout his career.

Petrossan in second ran to a new career peak Timeform figure of 97, one pound above his win at Warwick Farm the start prior and continues to run well in metropolitan company.

Felines in third returned very well with the big weight and ran to a Timeform rating of 111, her highest since winning the Group 3 Concord last year (113).

Earlier in the day Sound Proposition continued his strong form with a win in the ATC Heritage Volunteers Handicap.

Carrying 60kg, the Kris Lees-trained runner settled off the pace in fourth, before taking the lead at the 200m and edging out Loyalty Man in second with Jacquinot Bay third.

Sound Proposition, who has now won six of his 19 starts returned a new career peak Timeform rating of 117, four pounds above his win in the Racing To Win Handicap the starts prior.

The former Kiwi galloper is likely to be given a freshen up before a crack at the $150,000 Cameron Handicap (1500m) at Newcastle in September.

Going off his recent efforts he looks right up to winning that race with the average winning Timeform figure just over 113 for the Cameron.

2016 winner Chetwood ran to 115, with Forget running to 110 the year prior which puts Sound Proposition right in the mix off current form.

Of the beaten runners, Loyalty Man in second ran to his equal career peak of 103 with the old marvel Jacquinot Bay running to 94.

Heading north across the border to the Sunshine Coast and Crack Me Up followed up her Guineas win with victory in the Listed Tattersall’s Mile.

Settling around midfield Crack Me Up ran on strongly in the straight to edge out Cruising Speed in second with Pindan Pearl a further length back in third.

Crack Me Up returned a Timeform figure of 102, the same as she ran to when winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas and looks one to follow going into her four-year-old season.

The Liam Birchley-trained runner is the first three-year-old to win the race since Fifteen Carat in 2010 at Eagle Farm who ran to 107, 2016 winner Akavoroun running to 105.

Of the placegetters Cruising Speed in second ran to 100 and Pindan Pearl in third 97.

Sheiswhatsheis was disappointing in fifth, running to 93, seven pounds below her effort the start prior.
